Rune Colors

Colors are as important today as they were in the "viking" age. Red for the coloring of runes (usually with one's own blood- to instill one's own energies into the runes), etc. Blue is Odin's color (sometimes a theme of gold on a blue background), Green is usually associated with most of the Vanir, while red is usually associated with the Aesir. According to Else Christensen, Folk Mother who immigrated from Denmark to eventually spark the Odinic revival in the USA, the Gods and Goddesses personal colors are as follows:

The red white and black scheme which the National Socialists adopted is also a common usage of color, but no definitive reason is known for this combination, though theories abound. If you want detail, I will have to brush up and do a little remedial reading,

I have held a fascination for mythologies of all cultures, however I feel that a deeper understanding of the viking beliefs is in order to provide a deeper understanding of the basis of the runes, their power(s), and their interperetations. First, let me clear up what may be a misconception for you. Vikings are pirates, raiders, etc. All vikings were Norsemen, but not all Norsemen were vikings. Don't get me wrong, To go "a viking" in the Spring was something many a Northman would do, and to do so was in no way considered disrespectable by others. It was merely an occupation like any other, though possibly more dangerous, and for many it was not even a full-time occupation. Now, if you wish to learn more about the Faith and the culture which it springs from, I can provide you with some addresses to write to: Second Mountain Kindred: P.O.Box 6088, Harrisburg, PA 17112-0088 USA. Many publish periodicals (Var Hamarr, Vor Tru, OR Briefing, The Runestone, etc.) and many also sell books, tapes, Nordic sculpture, mead horns, jewelry, etc. and all are top-notch representatives of the Faith's two major branches (Asatru and Odinism). There are also many politically oriented kindreds and organizations out there, ranging from the far left to the far right. I am sure you will come across them sooner or later, but if you want to contact them, I can put you in touch with Odinists/Asatruar who espouse everything from Feminism and "why can't we all get along" to Folkishness and National Socialism. Eric Lowe is a Spokesman for Second Mountain Kindred and the Odinist Prison Project. As Spokesman, he is a qualified Gothi (spiritual leader/priest) and Hersir (secular leader) for the Kindred, sharing responsibilities with another Hersir, S.D. Kenly. Eric has held this position for four years and has been a professed Odinist for approximately eight years, coming to the Faith after several years of study and activity closely tied to it.
